Can I Get a Sign Please??! Part I

Can I Get a SIGN Please??!

*Part 1*

Two years ago, I got a really big idea but it required me to make a major sacrifice. So I asked God for a sign to confirm this pending leap of faith. He gave me one, but I was still apprehensive about this move. So what did I do? Asked again.

However, TWO signs weren't enough for this doubting heart of mine, so I asked for another, and another, and another. Before I knew it, I was asking God to confirm a sign with a sign. Graciously, He did, flooding my Facebook timeline and phone with messages and calls of confirmation, etc. I received enough to create a photo album which I titled, “Dare to Dream.” I figured, the more confirmation, the merrier. But I wasn't merry. I was still fearful.

One day in prayer I heard God say, "How many more signs do you need???" This question stopped me in my tracks. Truth was, each plea for a sign showed that I did not believe. I wanted to be in God’s will but I was afraid to step out and fail, especially if I heard Him incorrectly in the first place! God revealed to me that although the vision was great, my faith was low, so nothing that He did to appease me, could convince me anyway. From that moment, I chose to move forward with the vision. Yes, I was still very NERVOUS, but I had to stop looking back. I HAD to trust the God that I always claim to love. So instead of asking for more signs, I asked God to steady my heart and increase my faith.

We are never alone in our struggles. Genesis 15 shows that Abram had a hard time believing too. "Could You really give me a son at this age?" Abram probably thought. God wanted to bring assurance to his heart. He took him outside and showed him ONE incredible sign, saying, "Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them. So shall your offspring be." (Genesis 15:5) Abram immediately believed.

I had to remind myself that if I get just ONE sign, it IS enough. One of my favorite scriptures says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3. Did I CALL to Him for too many signs? Yup. Did it at least come from a pure place? Yes. The thing is, if we make a CHOICE to rely on God, we've got to trust Him and His Word, too.

When God tells you something, trust Him. It's okay to be nervous or afraid, but be afraid IN HIS ARMS. Most of the men and women who did anything great were afraid. BUT after a while they took courage and allowed faith to be their guide and shield. “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6

Smitten by Him,
